Day 15: Upper East Side in the Rain

We woke to the sound of rain today. It couldn't have been more different to the lovely day we had on Day 13. So what did we decide to do because of the bad weather? Did we spend the day warm and dry inside a museum, shopping centre or movie theatre? No we didn't! That would have been way too practical and sensible! Instead we spent six hours walking around the wet and windy streets of the upper east side.

We walked thru Central Park to the intersection of 86th and Lexington then we headed south and ended up at 50th street back at our favorite New York store (well, one of them!) Anthropologie.

How cool is the chair made out of old wall radiators - love it!

We also stumbled onto a fantastic very upmarket grocery store for upper eastsiders called Dean & Deluca. We stopped there to give our clothes a chance to dry out and have lunch - it was purely a bonus they sold such cute cookies!

Our last stop for the day was at the Museum of Art & Design - the first cultural touristy thing we've done so far - it had to happen eventually!

We got so wet walking there that when we walked in the door both our paper carry bags collapsed and the handles came off in our hands and a very nice lady who noticed this went and got us a new carry bag. We've been blown away by the friendliness we've encountered in this big city. It's not usually what you expect when in the big smoke but we can honestly say we love New Yorkers and their friendly, helpful personalities.

So the museum was small but perfect. We had a nice time walking around the exhibits. We then bravely went back into the rain and dashed into a subway station to get home.

We're hoping for better weather tomorrow so we can have fun exploring Central Park on bicycle.

Until then, sweet dreams and thanks for reading. xo xo
