Walking West and East, Brooklyn, Ice-Skating, Top of the Rock

Hello Blog-Readers. Cara and Polly here again and thanks for joining us on our travels around Manhattan, New York. The adventure had to end some time and now here's our final blog of our last 2 full days here, we hope you like it!

DAY 21: this morning we did a Food on Foot Tour (www.foodonfoottours.com) around the west side of Midtown which is known as Hell's Kitchen (it's become known by this nickname due to how hot it gets here!). This was led by a guy called Corey (a walking encyclopedia of all things food) who led his merry food followers of 20 tourists around some great little-known eateries off the beaten track. He led us on foot to a tiny little authentic Mexican take-out, brilliant pizza bakery, gourmet sandwich shop, Greek bakery, Biscotti specialist and ended with frozen custard ice-cream. It was all really good and definitely recommend doing one of these tours when in New York.

Lots to do today so after the Food on Foot Tour we jumped on a subway all the way south to Brooklyn and made good on a tip we received to see the shops around Smith Street and Carroll Gardens. The shops were really great and our own tip to add to that is Atlantic Avenue which has some cool stores too.

So of course we had to stop for a little afternoon tea at One Girl Cookies where we tried some miniature cookies and a whoopie-pie. Also, check out the interior which we thought was super cute!

We left Brooklyn and subway'd back up north to the upper east side to do the Roosevelt Island tram ride way up in the air over the traffic and water over to Roosevelt Island. This ride was Polly's other slight obsession (besides the squirrels) she was equally excited as the little girl next to us who has her dad take her on it every night of the week. Cute! Haha.

But wait there's more the day still isn't over! After the airway tram we finally paid a visit to the Victoria's Secret store, wow, it was filled with the most beautiful lingerie definitely a way to any girls heart. You couldn't not treat yourself to a little something.

DAY 22:
We had a lovely breakfast at a great place called Sarabeth's at Central Park.Yummy! Cara had their Papa Bear porridge (or oatmeal as they call it over here) and Polly had the Big Bad Wolf. It definitely fueled our energy levels to hit the ice-skating rink in Central Park.

We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day to do it. Let's just say we definitely worked up a bit of a sweat skating around in the sun with lots of warm layers on. This is something you have to do if you visit NY, oh, and it's a great bum/leg/thigh work out too haha! Just watch our for the dangerous first-timers who are like grenades falling down all around you!

After ice-skating it was time to hit the upper east side shops again and we also stumbled onto Bridgemarket which is a cool supermarket built into the vaulted ceiling of a bridge.

We finished off the day by doing Top of the Rock (Rockefeller Center) - wow, what an amazing view! Definitely something to put on your to do list.

Well thanks everyone for following our travels in New York! We had such an amazing time and such a great experience! We're now off to catch a long flight back to the Gold Coast. xo Cara and Polly
